Forage program to be initiated

PAINTSVILLE The Johnson County Conservation District and the Johnson County Agricultural Development Council announce that a Hay & Pastureland Planting Program, also known as the Forage Improvement Program, will be initiated to improve forage quality and cash farm income in Johnson County.

Landowners who wish to participate in the 50 percent matching cost share program are required to submit a soil test analysis for each field to be considered for funding.

The forage improvement program will serve landowners by adding lime and fertilizer, as well as renovating pasture and hayland with the addition of clover or alfalfa.

For a full description of the program guidelines, contact the conservation district at (606) 789-5263 or stop by its office in the Big Sandy USDA Service Center in Paintsville.
