Pike man pleads to armed robbery
PRESTONSBURG — A Pike County man agreed Thursday to a plea agreement for an October 2001 armed robbery and in exchange will get a 10-year prison sentence to run concurrently with an identical charge in Pike County.

Stoney Hill and Greg Hill of Pike County were indicted last year on first-degree robbery charges for threatening convenience-store clerk Pamela Webb with a knife and demanding money from the BP at Ivel on Oct. 21, 2001.

Later that same night, there was an armed robbery of the Western Express Mart in Pike County for which a Pike County grand jury indicted the two men on similar robbery charges, Floyd Commonwealth Attorney Brent Turner said.

Greg Hill pleaded guilty to the Floyd County charge last October and was sentenced to 10 years in prison to run concurrently with a similar plea in Pike County, Turner said.

On Monday, Stoney Hill's robbery trial began in Pike Circuit Court, and after the Pike County clerk identified him as one of the robbers, he agreed to plead guilty to the charge, Turner said.

"We're very happy with the amount of (prison) time," Turner said Thursday. "We take robbery cases very seriously. Anytime you can get 10 years for a case like this, it's a good result."

The Hills faced up to 20 years in prison, Turner said.

Webb, the clerk at the Ivel BP, told police two men came in and asked about buying lottery tickets and while she was behind the counter, one of them came around, pulled a knife and demanded money, Turner said. The two left with an undetermined amount of money and lottery tickets, he said.

Webb was able to identify Greg Hill as one of the robbers, and he later confessed to the crime but told police another man — not Stoney Hill — was with him, Turner said.

A witness near the Pike County robbery identified Greg and Stoney Hill as being in a car around the store at the time of the robbery, and the two were stopped by police afterward in Pikeville and arrested, Turner said. There were two females in the vehicle with the men plus $382 in Greg Hill's pants. Lottery tickets were also found.

Stoney Hill is set to be sentenced for the Floyd County robbery on May 23 in circuit court.
