PRESTONSBURG — A Tennessee man lodged in the Floyd County Jail for drunk driving has waived extradition back to that state to face theft charges.
Thomas Richard Popham, 40, was served with a fugitive from justice warrant in jail Thursday by sheriff's deputy Denzil McKinney.
According to an arrest warrant from Carter County, Tenn., on March 24, Kenneth Condra of Powder Branch Road reported to the Carter County Sheriff's Department that someone had stolen his 1988 Chevy S-10 Blazer. Condra reported that a male subject identified as Popham had been renting a room from him and he was also missing, according to the warrant. Tennessee officials were notified that Popham had been arrested by the Floyd sheriff's department for DUI while driving the Blazer, according to the warrant.
Popham is charged with theft in excess of $1,000 in Tennessee and waived extradition on Friday during his arraignment in district court.
