Accident results in drug charges
LAWRENCE — An early morning accident in Lawrence County Tuesday led to a Johnson County man being arrested on drug charges.

According to a press release from the Lawrence County Sheriff's Department, a caller reported an accident about 4:50 a.m. at the intersection of Cains Creek and the left fork of Cains Creek.

Lawrence County Sheriff Garrett Roberts said he found James D. Young, 52, sitting behind the wheel of a 1992 Chevy Camaro trying to get the car out of a ditch.

According to the sheriff, Young had a strong odor of alcohol and several empty beer bottles were found in the vehicle.

While being searched after his arrest, Roberts found what is believed to be cocaine in Young's pocket.

Young was charged with DUI and possession of a controlled substance and is being lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center in Paintsville.
