Martin Co. man killed in ATV accident
PILGRIM — A 36-year-old Martin County man was killed while riding a four-wheeler early Sunday morning.

Timothy Maynard, of Beauty, died of head injuries suffered in a crash sometime between 1 a.m. and 1:45 a.m. Sunday, law enforcement officials said.

A resident living near the crash site saw lights and ran next door to the residence of Jack Adams, who is a volunteer with the Pigeon Roost Fire Department and the Martin County Neighborhood Watch Program.

Adams said Monday that he "immediately radioed the dispatcher" to report the incident and then went to see if he could render aid.

"My neighbor told me that there had been a crash and that a man was laying in his yard. I grabbed my gear and was over there in about three minutes. His four-wheeler looked as though it had ramped a rail located in the middle of the turn. It went up one side and then came down on the other. When it stopped, the nose of the four-wheeler was pointing at the ground and he appeared to have fallen over the side."

Coroner Mike Crum said that he pronounced Maynard dead at the scene.

"It appeared that he was coming down Wolf Creek and failed to negotiate a curve, then hit the rail," Crum said.

Maynard was married to Lolita Richardson Maynard and had two children, a son, Jessie Allen Maynard, and a daughter, Tiffany Danielle Maynard.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Phelps and Son Funeral Home, with burial in Maynard Family Cemetery at Beauty.
