JCHS knocks off Lady Hornets, 9-2
PAINTSVILLE — Timely hitting and another dominating pitching performance allowed Johnson Central to defeat Magoffin County in high school softball action Thursday night.

The opportunistic Lady Eagles managed only five hits against opposing pitcher Tabitha Rowe but used their five hits and four Magoffin County errors to do the maximum in a 9-2 win over the Hornets at Lady Eagle Field.

Johnson Central scored two unearned runs in the first and added two more in the third for all the offensive production they would need.

Senior Brianne Daniels was once again unhittable, dominating opposing batters to the tune of 12 straight strikeouts to begin the game.

The Lady Hornets, falling to 0-2 on the year, managed only two hits in the game, a sixth-inning bunt single by shortstop Jaime Adams, who eventually scored when she stole second and crossed the plate on a Tasha Carty base hit.

Magoffin County added another run in the seventh when Jenny Howard coaxed a leadoff walk, stole second and later scored on a passed ball.

Daniels went the distance for Johnson Central to collect the team's second win of the season. She struck out 17 and issued just two walks.

Ashley Meek, who reached base in all four of her plate appearances, scored four times for the Lady Eagles. Daniel finished the day with a two-for-three effort at the plate, including a triple and a single and three runs batted in.

Lora Carty, Maggie Callis and Robin Pigg, with one hit apiece, accounted for Johnson Central's other three hits.

Rowe went the distance for Magoffin County, striking out three and walking three while hitting two more batters. Only three of the Johnson Central runs were of the earned variety.
