Conley, Hatfield combine for no-hitter
Johnson Central downs Magoffin
PAINTSVILLE — Johnson Central defeated the Magoffin County Hornets 11-0 at the Paul G. Fyffe Field Thursday night at Johnson Central. Johnson Central's Corey Conley and Tony Hatfield combined for a no-hitter in the Golden Eagles' first win.

Conley went the first three innings striking out four and hitting a batter, while Hatfield came on for the last two innings to strike out five, and he, too, hit a batter in the shut out.

The Golden Eagles scored four runs in the first inning, one in the second, five in the third and one in the bottom of the fourth.

They put seven players hitting the hit column. with senior first baseman Trenton VanHoose leading the way with a three-for-three performance with four RBI. Senior catcher Kevin Slone, who was the designated hitter in the game, went 1-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. Senior left fielder Chet Griffith also had a multiple hit game with a 2-3 day and an RBI.

Magoffin County sophomore Randall Craft went the distance for the Hornets, giving up 11 runs on 10 hits, walking four, hitting two batters and striking out one in the loss.

The loss dropped the Hornets' record to 0-2 on the season and has since dropped to 0-3 when they suffered an 8-7 loss when they traveled to Phelps Friday to take on the Hornets.

The win got the Golden Eagles back to the .500 mark, at 1-1, before they traveled south to the Hawaiian Tropic Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
