Dr. R.V. Mettu appointed to committee
PIKEVILLE, KY — The AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) board of directors recently approved the appointment of one of its fellows, Dr. R.V. Mettu, to the Accreditation Committee. The committee carries out accreditation procedures, as approved by the board of directors, for full-service centers and specialty laboratories in the United States.

The Committee on Committees recommended Mettu as an "excellent addition" to the Accreditation Committee. His term will take effect in June at the APSS (Associated Professional Sleep Societies) annual meeting and will continue for three years.

AASM President Andrew L. Chesson Jr., M.D., expressed that the board of directors recognizes the value of volunteers and appreciates Mettu's participation in the volunteer process.

Prior to his committee appointment, Mettu served as a designated site visitor for AASM's Department of Accreditation.

Mettu is the only board-certified sleep specialist in the region and was influential in instituting an accredited sleep center at Pikeville Methodist Hospital, which will be extending its services to Prestonsburg, Ky., this month. He presently serves as medical director for the sleep center.

In addition to AASM, Mettu is also a fellow in the American College of Physicians and the American College of Chest Physicians. He is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary medicine as well.
