Arts Council contest deadline June 2
by Maureen Dosier

Attention all students: It's time for the annual Yatesville Lake Poster Contest.

This festival is very special because the Lawrence County Arts Council, with the help of state Rep. Rocky Adkins, has a new permanent musician's stage at the marina. There will be a special ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony celebrating the occasion and this will be the first time musicians will be performing on it.

This will be the subject of your poster.

Draw your vision of what the new stage will look like and include musicians or (if possible) Adkins himself.

You can use pencil, ink, markers, crayons or paints. Please remember, neatness counts.

Include your name, age, phone number, school and grade level on the back. The contest deadline is June 2.

Posters can be submitted to your school's principal (prior to the last day of school May 30), or to the Lawrence County Arts Council.

This very special winner's ceremony will be at the festival and you will be able to personally present your winning poster to Rocky Adkins, and it will be proudly displayed in his office. You will also receive a $50 Savings Bond and an award certificate suitable for framing.

Best of Luck.

If you're not familiar with Yatesville Lake Family Jubilee here is further information.

Our festival showcases a diversity of music throughout the day performing live (no canned or karaoke music). Shop at the musician's tent and meet your favorites selling their CDs, T-shirts, hats, etc. We bill the entertainment portion as "The best musicians the tri-state area has to offer".

Arts and crafts booths featuring artists from the tri-state area, selected for their superior original artistic offerings for sale to the public. We encourage fine artists to exhibit and demonstrate their techniques with the public.

There will be games for the kids and the festival area is incorporated in an existing playground area.

Free boat rides on beautiful Yatesville Lake and free nature walks through Yatesville Lake State Park's trails.

A Taste of Kentucky cooking up a diversity of mouth watering meals and snacks.

The Yatesville Lake Family Jubilee will be held Saturday, June 21, at Yatesville Lake Marina from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Admission is free.
