Cream of the Crop: Paintsville

PAINTSVILLE — Paintsville High School has announced its top 10 for the class of 2003. The top students include:

— Sam Justin Allen, son of Harold and Bobbie Bayes of Paintsville and Sammy and Joann Allen of Wittensville, graduates with a 4.136 GPA. He plans to attend the University of Louisville with a Matching KEES Scholarship.

— Justin Michael Arms graduates with a 3.791 GPA. He is the son of Steve and Mary Arms of Paintsville and will attend Campbellsville University on a football scholarship.

— Lucinda Taylor Castle is the daughter of Deborah and the late Paul Castle of Paintsville. She graduates with a 4.319 GPA and will attend Eastern Kentucky University with Governor Scholar, Founders, Farm Bureau and Retired Teachers scholarships.

— Virginia Ruth Fuller, daughter of Ken and Leneda Fuller of Paintsville, graduates with a 4.429 GPA. She will attend Georgetown College with Governor's Scholar, Trustee and American Baby scholarships.

— Kinsey Lynn Gilkerson will attend Marshall University on a Presidential Scholarship. She is the daughter of Randy and Pamela Gilkerson and she graduates with a 3.978 GPA.

— Holli Leanne Howard is the daughter of Phillip and Paula Howard of Flat Gap and will graduate with a 4.023 GPA. She will attend Prestonsburg Community College with a Claude V. Chandler scholarship.

— Shanna Rhea Preston, daughter of James and Angela Preston of Paintsville, graduates with a 4.422 GPA. She will attend the University of Kentucky with Governor Scholar, All "A" and Cedar Coal scholarships.

— Adam Eugene Rice is the son of David and Lorna Rice of Paintsville. He graduates with a 4.070 GPA and will attend Eastern Kentucky University.

— Joseph Russell Shepherd graduates with a 4.119 GPA and will attend Pikeville College with an Appalachian Honors Scholarship. He is the son of Russell and Patty Shepherd of Prestonsburg.

— Tiffany Nicole VanHoose plans to attend the University of Kentucky with a Hall Bailey scholarship. She is the daughter of Bob and Elizabeth VanHoose of Paintsville and graduates with a 4.186 GPA.
