Fallsburg ARP students get balloon ride
FALLSBURG — Fallsburg Elementary students who reached their independent goals in the Accelerated Reading Program will receive a ride on a hot air balloon Wednesday, May 28.

The event will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The balloon will be set up at Yatesville Lake near the dam. Students will receive their ride if the weather conditions are right. The wind can't be more than seven mph.

Last summer, Fallsburg faculty met to discuss the Accelerated Reading Program. This program is software that students check out books from the library, read them and take a reading comprehension test on the computer.

For each question answered correctly, the student receives points. The faculty set a school reading goal of 10,000 points. Teachers also set independent goals for each student to read — kindergarten, five points; first grade, 15 points; second and third, 35 points; fourth and fifth, 50 points; sixth, seventh and eighth, 100 points.

Students who reached their independent goals will receive a ride on a hot air balloon this Wednesday.
