Yatesville jubilee June 21

by Maureen Dosier| Lawrence County Arts Council

The Lawrence County Arts Council is finalizing preparations for the third annual Yatesville Lake Family Jubilee. There will be a memberís meeting Thursday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at the Yatesville Lake Marina.

In honor of the ribbon cutting/dedication ceremony of the new musicianís stage by state Rep. Rocky Adkins, LCAC has outdone itself in the scope of talent enlisted to perform at this yearís free Yatesville Lake Family Jubilee Festival.

Endless Highway will have the honor of being the first group to perform on the new stage after the ribbon-cutting ceremony. These talented Lawrence County musicians have dedicated themselves to writing their own original music and have been busy performing throughout the tri-state area, most recently at the Bluegrass and More Festival last weekend in Morehead. LCAC is proud to have for the third year Lawrence Countyís ever popular Night Train, performing prior to a three-week musical tour in England.

Do you think somebody should warn the Brits the wild men from Mossy Jaw are coming?

If youíre into bluegrass, you wonít want to miss another awesome performance by Bottomline, who has made time in their busy performance schedule to return to the jubilee for a second year.

For our southern rock enthusiasts, Lo Ground will be performing their original music and country rock classics in their Lynyrd Skynyrd style. It just wouldnít be a jubilee without gospel music, and this year LCAC is pleased to present Teddi Leigh and her eight-piece band. If youíve not seen or heard her sweet strong voice and her moving performance, itís definitely worth the trip.

LCAC is honored to have Sofa King Deluxe perform for the first time in Eastern Kentucky. Sofa King Deluxe is a Chicago-style blues band playing blues from the prohibition era through the late 1960s. You might have seen their performances on KET. The Sofa Kings pump out their own brand of blues, swing, shuffle and boogie woogie rhythms with an energetic set and entertaining live show that will have the entire audience up on their feet. Sofa King Deluxe have been crowned ďBest Unsigned Blues BandĒ by the Kentuckian Blues Society.

This exciting musical lineup will be talked about for months, and itís all free. If thatís not enough, there will be arts and crafts booths, games for the kids, exhibit tents, free boat rides on Yatesville Lake and free nature walks on the trails, as well as delicious meals and snacks.

So mark your calendars now, load up your friends and family, pack up the lawn chairs and/or blankets and come celebrate the first day of summer at the Yatesville Lake Family Jubilee, Saturday, June 21, at the Yatesville Lake Marina. The fun begins at 11 a.m.
