Sen. Turner and friends raise more than $10,000 “fore” multiple sclerosis
by BSN Staff report

FRANKFORT — State Sen. Johnny Ray Turner, D-Drift, and his daughters, Melissa and Margalee, recently raised over $10,000 for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society through the “Fore” Multiple Sclerosis Golf Tournament at StoneCrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to spend an afternoon than with friends and family working together to raise money for an organization that advocates so strongly for people with MS,” Turner said. “My wife, Linda, was recently diagnosed with MS, and as a family this was our opportunity to help in the fight against this illness. I greatly appreciate the generosity of all of those who participated.”

Melissa and Margalee Turner organized the tournament, which they plan to make an annual event.

Other players included Sen. Ray Jones, D-Pikeville; House Floor Leader Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg, who also provided lunch for the group; State Rep. Rocky Adkins, D-Sandy Hook; Prestonsburg Mayor Jerry Fannin; and Jackson Mayor Mike Miller.

The winning team, sponsored by the Kentucky Lottery, finished the course 20 under par. Members of the team were Ryan Martin, Jeff Riley, Kim Nelson and Jim Blackburn.

The second-place team, sponsored by East Kentucky Security, finished the course 15 under par and included Mike Turner, Wes Hamilton, Bennett Allen and Doug Hall.

All winning team members walked away with new golf bags. Second-place winners received carry-on golf bags. Prizes for team members were provided by American Electric Power.
