Wellman receives memorial scholarship

FORT GAY, W.Va. The Fort Gay High School Alumni Association Board announces that this year's winner of the Fort Gay High School Memorial Scholarship is Sarah Elizabeth Wellman. She is a 2003 graduate of Tolsia High School and the daughter of Jackie D. and Loretta Wellman.

Wellman graduated with a 4.0 grade point average and plans to continue her studies in Medical Technology at Marshall University in the fall. While attending Tolsia she belonged to the National Honor Society, SADD, Beta Club, MU Alpha Theta. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, photography and reading. Besides winning the Fort Gay High School Memorial Scholarship, she also received the Westmoreland Coal Company Scholarship, Kings Daughters Hospital Health Scholarship, Promise Scholarship and the Cabwaylingo Presbyterian Scholarship.

On Aug. 29, the annual Fort Gay High School dinner and reception will be held at Tolsia High School beginning at 4:30 p.m. with dinner being served at 6 p.m. At that time Wellman will be introduced to the group who have made this scholarship possible. This scholarship is awarded by Marshall University and is funded by the Fort Gay High School Alumni Association. Also on Aug. 29, the 3rd Annual Fort Gay High School Memorial golf tournament will be held at Sugarwood Golf Course at Lavalette, W.Va. Anyone interested in sponsoring a hole or playing the tournament can contact Joe Damron at Rt. 1 Box 613, Fort Gay, WV 25514. All proceeds go directly to the scholarship fund.
