Johnson student lands MSU scholarship

MOREHEAD ó An incoming freshman from Johnson County has received one of the three scholarships awarded through the TRIO program at Morehead State University.

Chris Newsome was awarded the scholarship to be used for the 2003-04 academic year.

While in high school, Newsome was a participant in the in TRIOís Upward Bound II. He was a member of the academic team for three years, made two appearances in the KAEOP scholarís bowl along with one appearance in the SAEOPP regional scholarís bowl, as well as being a member of BETA, DECA, drama and spirit clubs. He also sang in the schoolís choir.

Leslie Derrickson, counseling coordinator at MSU, nominated him for the scholarship.

The TRIO program at MSU includes Student Support Services, Educational Opportunity Center (EOC), Talent Search I and II, Upward Bound I and II, and Upward Bound Math and Science Center.
