PBH, Food City hosts blood drive

PAINTSVILLE Blood is needed everywhere, every day.

Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center and Food City ask you to ensure blood is available for area hospital patients by donating on Monday, Aug. 11, from 1-4 p.m. in the annex at Paul B. Hall Medical Center and on Tuesday, Aug. 12 from 1-4 p.m. at the bloodmobile at Food City. The drive is being sponsored in conjunction with Central Kentucky Blood Center.

Every three seconds in the United States, someone receives a blood transfusion. Blood and blood components are used to treat accident and burn victims, cancer patients and other patients undergoing surgeries and medical treatments.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in good general health. The complete process takes less than an hour, with the actual donation of one pint lasting 10 minutes. Blood can be donated every 56 days.

Through the support of volunteer donors and drive sponsors like Paul B. Hall and Food City, Central Kentucky Blood Center provides blood to 65 hospitals in 61 Kentucky counties.

All donors on Aug. 11-12 receive a free T-shirt for donating. For more information, call Dawn Wheeler at 1-800-775-2522.
