Army Reserve Pvt. Kevin S. Felty has graduated from the administrative specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

The course is designed to train soldiers to perform administrative, clerical, and typing duties; prepare military and nonmilitary correspondence in draft and final copy, employ basic principles of English composition and grammar, and proofread typed documents. Students also learned to assemble final products for review, authentication, or other disposition, operate office machines, and prepare registered or certified mail for dispatch, and open, sort, route, and deliver incoming correspondence and messages.

Felty is the son of Kenny D. and Kelli R. Felty of Grayson.

His wife, Amanda, is the daughter of Danny and Debbie Haugh of Catlettsburg.


Army Pvt. John W. Blackburn has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Blackburn is the son of Terry Blackburn of Right Fork Narrows Branch Road at Hardy. He is a 1999 graduate of Belfry High School.
