Lawrence Arts Council preparing for Septemberfest

Art Contest and Exhibit

Attention to all creative residents: The deadline to enter the Septemberfest 2003 Art Contest is Saturday, Aug. 30.

Artists are allowed to price and sell their entries (complete transactions after the presentation ceremony and throughout the month the artwork is displayed).

All artwork entries in the biggest multi-media art show in Lawrence County must be submitted on Saturday, Aug. 30, to the Lawrence County Library between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Entry fee: $1 per item; ages 18 or under, $2 per item for adults. Please include a card with your name, phone number, category and age group, entry fee, and remember, presentation counts.

An engraved plaque for Best of Show will also be awarded.

There will be a special presentation ceremony for winners during Septemberfest, Saturday, Sept. 6, at noon on the main stage and photos and videos will be featured in our newspapers and TV.

Judging will commence Saturday afternoon, prizes will be first and second place Septemberfest ribbons, Honorable Mention Septemberfest ribbons in juvenile and adult groups. An engraved plaque for "Best of Show" will also be awarded.

The Septemberfest Art Show categories have been increased to encompass more specialized artistic offerings, and we always invite artisans from outside of our community to participate.

They include: Collages, computer, and poster art-black and white or color, realistic or abstract; Doll Making - paper, cloth, clay, paper maché, wood or mixed;

Drawing - pencil/pen and ink/pastels, markers, or crayons, portraits, landscapes, animated figures; Jewelry - clay, glass, plastic, wood, stone organic, precious or semi-precious stones, or metal-copper, silver or gold;

Paintings - watercolor, acrylic, tole/decorative, and oils, portraits, landscapes, fantasy/abstract; Photography - black and white, color; Portraits-people, animals, landscapes, flora and fauna; Sculpture - wood, clay, paper maché, and metal and/or mixed; Soft Textiles -decorative/functional fiber art, knit, crochet, hand sewn or machine afghans, scarves, clothing, pillows, Christmas stockings, rugs, etc.;

Needlepoint - ribbon embroidery, needlepoint, crewel, and counted cross stitch (this category will include artwork done by kits); Quilts-laptop, storybook, appliqued, and full-sized decorative/functional (hand or machine stitched); Woodworking - woodcarving, decorative, or decorative/functional Furniture; Miscellaneous; and any and all categories not included above.
