Please teach me
The Pastor's Pen

by Pastor Jack Ward

John Maxwell tells in his book, The Leader Within You, the story of the building of the Great Wall of China. They built it so high that no one could get over it. And they built it so thick that no one could tunnel through it. They built this gigantic wall that still exists today. And then the people of China sat down behind the wall, feeling that their future was secure.

But in the first 100 years of the existence of the wall, China was invaded three different times. The enemy didn’t come over because it was too high. They didn’t tunnel through because it was too thick. But each time China was invaded, the enemy came through a gate left open for them.

Those who guarded the gate had been bribed. And while the people of China sat comfortably behind the security and the safety of the wall, they failed to teach their children integrity and patriotism. So, they sold out to the enemy. And the enemy invaded their land. What a parable!

Because we have not taught our children to love and fear God and to worship and serve Him aren’t we leaving the gates of their minds and souls open for anything that comes along? I have heard many people tell me this about their children. “I won t influence my children in religion, that is their decision.”

Parents, as a matter of fact you are influencing and teaching your children religion and spiritual things all the time. Your children’s view of and belief in spiritual truth comes by your example. Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Adrian Rogers said “We train our dogs and don’t train our kids. Then we tie up the dogs at night and let the kids run wild.”

You teach your children the truth about fire, cold, electricity, alcohol, drugs, sex, good and evil, and these things should be taught. But why won’t you teach them spiritual truths?

Let me give you some sound Biblical truth. Jesus said in Mark 10:14 “Suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.”

John 14:6: “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

l John 5:12: “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

John 8:24: “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”

Parents, bring our children to Jesus because here is truth according to the Bible, if your children grow up and never know Jesus Christ as their Savior, they will Leave this world and be in the lake of fire forever! Think about that, forever and ever! They will never experience the abundant life in Christ. That is why you should influence your children and teach them about Jesus.

Your child is saying “please teach me.” It is never too late to begin. Begin now! Matthew 11:29 “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Teach them to love God. Duet. 5:5-7: “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, and shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto they children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

What are you going to teach your children?
