Polish Philharmonic Resovia opens concert series

PIKEVILLE The Pikeville Concert Association opens the 2003-04 concert season on Thursday, Oct. 16, with a performance by the Polish Philharmonic Resovia from Poland.

Formed in 1955, the Polish Philharmonic Resovia is well known for its regular concert appearances in the impressive Philharmonic Hall in Resovia, and for its performances of Polish and world-class composers and appearances at Music Festivals both in and outside Poland.

Resovia is an economic, scientific and cultural centre of southeastern Poland, the capital of the Podkarpackie Province and the seat of the Authorities of the Catholic Diocese.

The Polish Philharmonic Resovia performs not only in the National Philharmonic Hall, but also as a guest at such prestigious festivals such as Wratislavia Cantans and the Festival of European Culture in Krakow. Musicians of International renown come to Resovia each year to participate in recitals, chamber music and appearances with the Polish Philharmonic Resovia.

Maestro Tadeusz Wojciechowki serves as artistic director and chief conductor of the Polish Philharmonic Resovia. He frequently appears as a guest conductor at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen and Staatsoper in Munich, as well as conducting many of the major orchestras in Poland and abroad, including orchestras in Germany, Austria, Denmark, Sweden and Slovenia.

Tadeusz has appeared and continues to frequent the podium in some of the most illustrious opera houses as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Royal Opera Theatres in Oslo, Copenhagen and Stockholm, Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice and the Teatro Carl Felice in Genoa. He was a general director and artistic director of the National Opera in Warsaw in 1995 and 1996.

The Oct. 16 performance by the Polish Philharmonic Resovia will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Pikeville College's Booth Auditorium. Season memberships are available from the Pikeville Concert Association.
