Arts council sponsors contest

Attention all students, the Lawrence County Arts council (LCAC) and the Big Sandy Coffee Shop are sponsoring a Pumpkin Art Contest. Draw or paint a picture with pumpkins as the theme. It can feature a jack o'lantern, pumpkin patch, cornucopia, etc....let your imagination guide your creativity. Artwork must be no larger than 24" x 36" and include a card with your name, school, grade, age and phone number, remember neatness counts.

All entries must be submitted to the Big Sandy Coffee Shop or LCAC no later than Wednesday, Oct. 22 .

There will be ribbons and cash savings bonds for the winners from each school division with a special presentation ceremony and the artwork will be displayed at the Big Sandy Coffee Shop for the public to enjoy.

LCAC is sponsoring a Homemade Holiday Ornament Contest for all school-aged children.

Homemade ornaments can be made of any material,(except candy) i.e. -paper, cloth, felt, foam, wood, or found objects, and can be embellished with ribbon, beads, glitter, etc. There will be winners for each school in each grade division, first and second place for the best and the most creative. Ornaments can be done at home or a special classroom project and must include a tag with your name, school, grade, age and phone number. Ornaments will be on display at the Winter Wonderland Festival and there will be a special presentation ceremony with ribbons and keepsake photos with Santa. Please submit your entries to LCAC or your school's office, all entries must be submitted by Monday, Nov. 10.

The Lawrence County Arts Council and Big Sandy Coffee Shop announce the first poetry reading night Thursday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. at the Big Sandy Coffee Shop.

If you enjoy writing, reading or listening to original poetry, this night is for you. There will also be a special presentation ceremony for the winners of the Patriotic Poetry Contest.

All inspired writers are invited to bring their own poetry to be read and shared during this fun evening. See you there.
