Betsy Layne ROTC to take part in inauguration

BETSY LAYNE — Between Gov.-elect Ernie Fletcher and Attorney General-elect Greg Stumbo, Betsy Layne High School’s Marine R.O.T.C. unit will be marching in the inaugural parade in Frankfort on Tuesday.

The group was invited to march in the parade about “a week ago,” Sergeant Major Glenn Ripkoski said.

“We will have a Marine Corps Color Guard and a 35-man platoon,” Ripkoski said. “They will be performing with weapons. They are very enthusiastic about being in the parade. They are excited and honored to do it.”

Ripkoski said they were notified they would be marching behind Fletcher and in front of Stumbo during Tuesday morning’s parade which begins at 10 a.m. Cadet Major Diane Boyd will lead the cadet color guard

Cadets participating in the parade are Diane Boyd, Eric Hamilton, Phillip Wallace, Kirt Weiskittel, Adam Akers, Misty Boyd, Nikki Billiter, Michael Cole, Ashley Conn, Whitney Gillespie, Sabrina Johnson, Amanda Newsome, Forrest Porter, Leigh Adkins, Kristie Hunter, Brandon Johnson, Jessica Newsome, May Tackett, Kasey Jewell, Brandon Bentley, Dustin Hall, Travis Hamilton, Colby Hinkle, Eric Adkins, Rocky Naggy, Shane O'Bryan, Matthew Tackett, Justin Taylor, Howard Waddles, Kyle Woods, Justin Collins, Derek Boyd, Tawnia Jones, Michell Elkins, Ryan Hunt and Samantha Newsome.

The unit has been at school for three years.
