Nothing cuter than a baby piglet

01/26/2007 - HOLLYWOOD ... It's that time of year when everything is either ending or beginning. Sound silly? Not so. Some filming, but concentration is more on winning awards for last year's presentations, acting, etc. The usual characters are doing their usual thing, and the quieter ones sit by watching.

There's nothing cuter than a baby piglet, and nothing uglier than a big old grown-up fat hog. In "Babe" a baby piglet stole the show, and now it's another cute little white one that's winning the hearts of moviegoers in "Charlotte's Web." Of course, little Miss Dakota Fanning comes in for kudos along with the four-footed star. And believe me, little Miss Fanning handles herself like an adult star, and even a little bit more in public. And, can you imagine stars like Robert Redford, Julia Roberts, Kathy Bates, John Cleese, Oprah Winfrey, Cedric The Entertainer and others playing second fiddle to a piglet. They do, voicing roles in "Charlotte's Web," and they loved every minute of the making.

Elijah Wood goes into "Oxford Murders," about a young student who goes to Oxford to study but becomes involved in, and intrigued with, a murder that occurs where he lives. The story was written by — get this — Jorge Guerricaechevvaria. I kid you not. That one is harder to spell than supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, and I'm not too sure I spelled that correctly. Fun and games, huh?

Aside to Beatrix R. of Richmond, Va. Yes. T'is true. Barbra Streisand used to order flower petals to be floated in the toilet bowl of the bathrooms of hotels where she stayed while on tour. I don't know whether this is still an order. But, after all, Babs doesn't tour that much any more. And I cannot answer as to whether that happens in her home. If I find out, I'll let you know. However, I do know when Liz Taylor used to travel she would have Chasen's Restaurant in Hollywood send her their famous chili. That landmark is now closed and a supermarket operates on the spot. I guess Liz just has to have her chili cooked at home now.

Former Occupations: Marilyn Monroe first worked in a factory. Raquel Welch was a secretary to a bishop. Barbara Stanwyck was a package wrapper. Audrey Hepburn was a dental assistant. BITS 'N' PIECES: One of the Olsen sisters, I think it was Mary Kate, running across Hollywood Boulevard, her hair now bleached very light and hanging long and straight. ... Hopefully, Nicole Kidman's hubby will drop the drugs permanently and things will go smoothly in her marriage. ... Meanwhile, the marriage of her ex, Mr. T. Cruise, seems to be rolling happily along. ... AND Paris and Britney have discovered each other, and as we used to say in the Deep South when I was growing up: Lawdy! Wawdy! Pawdy! Dawdy!
