11/21/2007 - LOUISA — The Obstetrics Services Department with Three Rivers Medical Center is currently offering an ongoing series of educational outreach programs at the office of Dr. Curt Edens on Friday mornings, according to Chief Executive Officer Greg A. Kiser, MHA.

A kick-off event was recently held that featured Tamara Ward, CRNA with Three Rivers Medical Center, who addressed the group about anesthesia and pain management during surgery and delivery to potential mothers.

Mary Cook, RN, director of Nursing Services with the Obstetrics and Nursery Departments, and her staff presented educational programs and classes through the collaborative efforts and partnership of Edens. The programs feature and highlight numerous topics such as caring for the newborn and mother through family involvement, parental teaching for parents, sibling involvement, nutritional resources, exercise, normal and abnormal process of pregnancy, newborn care, labor versus false labor, delivery and post partum care, pre and post surgical care instructions, infection control methods, good hand-washing techniques, quality hand sanitizer products and advice for immunization purposes.

Information and resources are available about pain management during hospitalization with surgery and delivery procedures. A countless list of programs was featured and will be featured in future sessions.

A tip-top maternity program "Tiny Toes" exclusively from Three Rivers Medical Center is also offered. Membership is free, and it comes with all kinds of fun and helpful gifts. Gifts include a monthly newsletter full of health tips for the mother and her family, a CD of lullabies and a framed copy of the baby's first footprints. The program also provides for the baby's photo to be displayed on the Tiny Toes Internet Nursery.

Edens, OB-GYN physician with Three Rivers Medical Center, provides a full scope of obstetrical and gynecological services. He stresses the importance of prompt pre-natal care and the value of participating in educational programs that are being offered in his office.
