St. George motorcyclist killed in collision with Washington County Sheriff's deputy
ST GEORGE – Authorities have identified a motorcyclist who was killed Sunday in a crash involving a Washington County Sheriff's deputy.
The deputy, who was in a marked patrol car, was responding to a report of a separate rollover crash on Old Highway 91 west of St. George and Santa Clara Sunday afternoon when he collided with a motorcyclist. Details of the accident have not been released.
The motorcyclist, Daniel Jacques Monfour, 33, of St. George, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputy was treated at a local hospital and later released. The Utah Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and said the deputy's emergency equipment was activated when the “head-on” collision occurred.
“We know there are many questions about last night's collision between a motorcycle and a patrol truck,” the sheriff's office posted on Facebook Monday afternoon. “The exact cause of the collision will be determined by the Highway Patrol, so we cannot release those specific details.
“The Washington County Sheriff's Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and to all those affected by this incident,” the department said.
